Happy New Year! I'm a little late with my New Years resolution. Never to late to start, I guess. Since the last time I posted... well the only time that I posted I have submitted my first I phone app to the App Store. I saw it as primarily an exercise in learning my way around the iOS SDK. More recently I have begun working on a new iOS app for a client. I cannot give out any details. But as I began researching various details it dawned on me that cocos2d might the best framework to turn to for the job. The app is not strictly a game but because it is interactive and graphic centered it makes sense.
For those who don't know. Cocos2d for iPhone has community support found here. Recently books have started creeping into the market, including Cocos2d for iPhone 0.99 Beginner’s Guide from Packt Publishing, Learning Cocos2D, which is available in an incomplete form via Safari Rough Cuts, and Apress' Learn iPhone and iPad Cocos2D Game Development. Investing in any of these books or all them is likely a good idea. But I find that in many cases books for beginner feature an approach centered on making a specific game or project. I learn best when I explore the nuts and bolts of the frame work rather than the specifics of the project outlined in this type of book. A cookbook style tome has not hit the market yet. As I comb the internet looking for tutorials and forum posts, I hope to string together my own recipes and share them here, either as posts with a specific example or links to posts elsewhere. I welcome and comments or suggestions.
Anyhow, here's to a new year and a new journey.
